Q: Who are you? Where are you from?

A: Hi, I’m Tanner. I grew up in the Sunapee/Lakes region of New Hampshire before coming to the Boston area.

Q: What’s your background? What did you do before Modulate?

A: With a degree in Geology I naturally relied on my jewelry making abilities to land my first tech job building and fixing circuit boards.  From there It’s been an immensely rewarding and meandering path through GPS map making, Market research software, discrete additive manufacturing, and process manufacturing.

Q: Why are you joining Modulate?

A: Joining modulate presents a unique opportunity to work and live my values with an enthusiastic team of thinkers and tinkerers.

Q: What’s your ideal work environment? Any special strategies you use to stay effective?

A: Learning is what drives me and making mistakes is how I learn best.  Anywhere I can dive in and get things wrong is somewhere I’ll thrive and contribute the most.

Q: Tell us about something you A: Hi, I’m Tanner.  I grew up in the Sunapee/Lakes region of New Hampshire before coming to the Boston area.have in any culture you join?

A: Humor is huge for me, from terrible puns and dad jokes to elaborate set ups or silly hats.  A light atmosphere exercises the brain and keeps things exciting!

Q: Who are you outside of work?

A: My wife and I are comfortably settled in the country where we love to entertain, garden, and explore.  I’m a certified timber framer with aspirations to build a passive timber and straw home before 40.  Any project that pops into my brain ends up together in some form and a recent favorite is my 3D printed Ebike.  While some online and digital games will always be special to me, I really enjoy co-op tabletop games, TCGs, and Onitama.

Q: What’s something you’re great at that few people realize?

A: People new to me quickly realize I’m a superb whistler, and once they realize it they should really speak up because it HAS to be annoying and I literally don’t realize I’m doing it.

Q: Leave us with a fun tidbit - a favorite joke, a story from your past, an obscure riddle, whatever you like!

A: On the cusp of finally achieving masters rank in Starcraft 2 I had the misfortune of drawing a very skilled player and wonderful streamer Livibee who easily picked me apart with Mutalisks.  I have never recovered.
