13 Call Center Templates to Run a Tighter Operation

September 28, 2026

Running an inefficient contact center can get expensive fast. Phone calls remain the most utilized support channel by consumers. According to a 2024 McKinsey survey, live phone conversations remain one of consumers’ preferred channels to contact a company for support across all generations surveyed, including Gen Z. In fact, 71% of Gen Z consumers reported that phone calls are the quickest and most convenient way to resolve a customer service issue, and they’re 35-40% more likely to call a business compared to millennials.

High call volume equals pressure on your agents. Deloitte's 2024 Global Contact Center Survey, revealed 76% of agents reported feeling overwhelmed by too many systems and too much information to absorb, contributing to longer calls with worse outcomes.

Templates won’t fix every problem your team encounters, but they do remove one category of friction that slows teams down before the customer even calls. Having a standardized QA scorecard, clean call log, and a well-thought-out script are what separates the teams that fold when pressure is applied and the teams that thrive. Here are 13 templates that focus on the work that has the most impact on your numbers: quality scoring, call monitoring, agent evaluations, reporting and customer feedback.

A Note on Templates and Security

Templates help ensure consistency, but they're not scanning for fraud. When templating your scoring and monitoring, treat red flags for fraud-risk as another scored item (not an afterthought). Most financial account takeovers begin in the call center, according to more than two-thirds of financial industry professionals responding to a TransUnion survey. Frequently asked questions

What goes on a call center QA scorecard?

Agent professionalism, accuracy, compliance and resolution are the foundations for any QA scorecard. Categories on your scorecard should be weighted according to your organization's needs. Scorecard items that are compliance-related should have established pass/ fail benchmarks. Total scores should consolidate scorecard results into an easily digestible number so you can track agent and organizational performance over time.

How frequently should I update call center templates?

Quarterly is a good rule of thumb, or whenever something major changes: a product launch, compliance requirements, a new channel, customer expectations, etc. Scorecards tend to get out of alignment very quickly if what's being scored isn't what your business needs from agents.

Can Excel call center templates scale with growth?

Yes, but only to a point. Excel works great for small groups needing basic call logs, QA scorecards and KPI dashboards. Once you begin to scale up, however, you’ll quickly experience growing pains: manual data entry is time-consuming, version control is a nightmare, and you lose real-time visibility. Eventually, growing teams (whether by reps or by channel) outgrow excel and realize a purpose-built QA app or BI platform is worth the investment.

How do call center scorecards differ from KPI dashboards?

Scorecards operate at the transaction level. They score an individual agent or call against the criteria you specify. Dashboards operate at the operational level. They aggregate service level, abandonment, and handle time across your entire center so leaders can see trends with a quick glance. You need both tools. The scorecard enables coaching, and the dashboard enables decision-making.

What are the best call center templates for a new contact center?

Start with a QA scorecard (so everyone is scoring calls the same way from day one), a call log (so you have clean data for creating reports), and call scripts (so new agents learn faster and everyone sounds alike). Then you can grow into a KPI dashboard and agent performance tracker as you scale your team.
